In a recent social media update, Nigerian recording artist Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, clarified the reasons behind his silence regarding his active legal dispute with his ex-manager, Damilola “Dapper” Akinwumi.

The musician stated that both his legal representatives and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) instructed him to refrain from making further public remarks while the investigation proceeds. Although Shallipopi previously alleged that Dapper withheld royalty payments for 46 of his tracks – a dispute that quickly escalated into a public fallout – he has committed to withholding further commentary on social media, in interviews, or through his music.

What did Shallipopi say concerning his silence on the matter?

Shallipopi noted that stepping away from the public eye was a necessary measure to let the legal proceedings unfold naturally. He emphasized that following the directive of his legal counsel and law enforcement to trust the investigative process means putting an end to the public back-and-forth seen in recent weeks. While remaining firm in the validity of his accusations, the singer acknowledged that continuing to speak out on an active inquiry could compromise the judicial outcome. He clarified that his decision to stay quiet is not a retraction of his claims, but rather an effort to allow the appropriate authorities to conduct their work without obstruction.

How did the rift between Shallipopi and Dapper started?

The high-profile rift between Shallipopi and Dapper has drawn widespread attention across the Nigerian music industry, given Dapper’s pivotal role in the singer’s career trajectory. Prior to this shift, both parties exchanged heavy accusations online, with Shallipopi demanding formal responses regarding the handling of his catalog and earnings.
