An old interview recirculated in the wake of his high-profile clash with rapper Erigga, featuring Afrobeats star Davido has resurfaced, triggering fresh debate across social media regarding wealth, leverage, and grit within the music business.
The recording, taken from a 2023 interview on Real 92.3 FM, captures Davido recalling an unexpected encounter with World Bank President David Malpass while in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup.

According to Davido, the meeting occurred shortly after he delivered a performance at a local hotel. When Malpass approached to praise his set, Davido immediately initiated a video call with his father, billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke.
Davido noted that his father had spent years attempting to secure a meeting with Malpass through standard institutional channels without success. He highlighted the moment to show how his musical fame opened doors that traditional corporate influence could not.

The clip began circulating again following Erigga’s early September 2026 post, in which the rapper commended artists who rose to prominence without the backing of family wealth. Davido pushed back against the comment, arguing that a privileged background does not erase an artist’s personal effort or accomplishments.
Erigga fired back by crowning Davido the “Ambassador of Rich Kids” and claiming the singer uses his standing to dismiss artists from less affluent backgrounds.
