Afro-soul singer-songwriter and producer Kunmie has introduced his first full-length album, 22, a 13-track collection that marks a key milestone in his musical journey. Titled after the transformative age when he fully embraced his artistic voice, the project builds on the momentum generated by his hit single “Arike.” Throughout the record, Kunmie draws from his own life, reflecting on major life turns like moving away from home at 16 to follow his music career.
The sound of 22 merges Afro-soul, R&B, and modern African pop, driven by warm acoustic elements, gentle keyboard textures, and layered vocal harmonies. Kunmie’s expressive voice anchors the album’s varied emotional tones, complemented by guest spots from prominent artists including Zlatan, Phyno, Lojay, Wizard Chan, and Joeboy.

Lyrically, the album reads like an open personal journal focused on maturity, ambition, romantic loss, and faith. Rather than shying away from the rapid changes in his life, Kunmie uses his songwriting to navigate sudden fame, identity, and inner strength. Ultimately, 22 delivers a grounded, self-assured debut that highlights both his personal story and his place in the evolving alt-soul scene.
